When someone is newly diagnosed with Parkinson's, the questions tend to cluster around a few key concerns. Here's a common top 10:

  1. "How fast will this progress, and what will my life look like in 5/10 years?" — Parkinson's varies hugely between people, so this is often the hardest one to get a straight answer on.

  2. "Which type of Parkinson's do I have, and how severe is it right now?" — Understanding staging (e.g., Hoehn and Yahr scale) and whether it's tremor-dominant or another subtype.

  3. "What medications are available, and when should I start them?" — Including questions about levodopa, dopamine agonists, and the debate around starting treatment early vs. waiting.

  4. "Will I need to stop working, and if so, when?" — Career and financial planning concerns come up quickly.

  5. "Is this hereditary — will my children get it?" — Genetic risk is one of the first fears people raise, even though most cases aren't strongly hereditary.

  6. "What can I do myself — exercise, diet, lifestyle — to slow it down?" — This is a huge one, especially given growing evidence that exercise (particularly intense, regular activity) may help slow symptom progression.

  7. "Will I lose my independence — driving, daily tasks, self-care?"

  8. "What about my mental health — will I get depression, anxiety, or cognitive changes?" — Non-motor symptoms are often less anticipated than tremor but can be just as life-altering.

  9. "What support is available — specialists, support groups, financial help?"

  10. "What's the long-term outlook — will this affect my life expectancy?"
